Process & Pricing
From First Contact to Data Delivery
Our goal is to get you high-quality data as quickly as possible. These are the five steps to get you from first contact to data delivery:
- Project Request Form and Virtual Meeting: Once you submit a Project Request Form, we will reach out to schedule an initial virtual meeting to discuss your analytical needs.
- Statement of Work: We draft a Statement of Work with deliverables, budget, and timelines and send it to you for review.
- Service Agreement: We send you our streamlined fast-track Service Agreement for review and execution.
- Sample Shipment: We provide you with shipping details and you ship us your samples for analysis.
- Data Delivery: We send you your data as soon as it's ready!

Letter of Support & Collaborations
Are you working on a research grant application and would like to include human milk analytics in your proposal? We would be happy to support your application with a letter of support and explore opportunities to collaborate.
Please note, prices listed below are for service agreements only. Direct costs to collaborate on research grant applications (e.g., to the NIH, Wellcome Trust, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, etc.) are lower but may draw indirect costs as applicable and allowable by the funder.
Please contact us to discuss the different options.
Open Data Sharing
Open data enables faster, more reliable, and more diverse research, which benefits society as a whole. In fact, many funding agencies now mandate that data must be made publicly accessible.
The Human Milk Institute envisions a future where all human milk data we generate over the years will be publicly accessible in form of a Human Milk Data Hub. This resource will allow the research community at large to track human milk composition across geographies and lactation stages.
To enable the Human Milk Data Hub, we ask you for the following basic information about your human milk samples:
- Where was the sample collected (geography)?
- Was the baby delivered at term or preterm?
- How many days post-partum was the sample collected (lactation stage)?
We do not ask for any subject-identifying information. All of this only applies to human milk samples, of course.
Opting Out: While open data sharing is ideal, we acknowledge that some legal frameworks may prohibit making data publicly available. Therefore, we offer an opt-out check box in the Project Request Form and include an Opt-Out clause in the service agreement if needed.
Requirements
Deidentified Samples: Samples from human subjects must be deidentified for us to proceed with analyses. We will not ask for nor accept subject-identifying information.
Minimum Samples: A 10-sample minimum is required for all lipid panels due to setup costs. Multiples of 40-sample batches are required for all MSD-panels. All other assays do not have minimum sample requirements.
Discounts
Bulk Discounts: Larger sample sizes qualify for high-volume discounts of up to 30% for some assays.
Flow-Through Discounts: Occasionally, vendors provide the Milk Analytics Core with special discounts for assay plates, reagents, etc. We make sure those discounts flow through to you.
